B&B Rome - To visit: Castle St. Angelo

At a few steps away from the B&B in Rome Best Vatican, through a nice and suggestive walk of no more than five minutes, it is possible to reach one of the most attractive monuments in Rome : Castle St. Angelo.
Built around 123 B.C. as a simulacrum for emperor Adriano and his family, Castle St. Angelo has an atypical history in the artistic scenario of the capital city.

While all the other monuments of the Roman Era are overwhelmed, reduced to ruins or to caves for the recycling of material for the construction of modern buildings, the castle, through continuous transformation wich follow without any apparent link, has remained protagonist in the History of Rome for over 2000 years.

From a mortuary monument, to a fortified outpost, from a gloomy and disquieting prison, to a splendid renaissance palace thanks to Michelangelo’s long work, and from a Risorgimento prison, to a splendid museum, Castle St. Angelo, in its solemn roman rooms , in its strong walls and festive decoration and vivid frescos, remains one of the most magnificent representatives of the past and present of the Eternal City.
